Publication Policies

Guidelines for acknowledging the facility in publications and notifying us of those publications.

Facility Acknowledgement

When you utilize BYU’s Electron Microscopy Facility, you agree to the following:

  • You should acknowledge the EM Facility in any publications for which part of the research was conducted using the facility. Publications including journal articles, posters, dissertations, theses, books/book chapters, meeting proceedings, platform presentations, etc. should all include an acknowledgement.
  • If you had significant assistance from a staff member, their name should also be included in the acknowledgement.
  • Similarly, if a staff member had significant input to the content of the publication, then their name should be included as a contributing author to the publication.
  • Most importantly, you must fill out a Publication Notification Form from our website to let us know about all of your publications that include acknowledgement or authorship of the EM Facility or its staff members.
Acknowledgement in your publications should read something like this:

"We would like to acknowledge the BYU Electron Microscopy Facility for providing access to the equipment and expertise that allowed this project to be performed."

Why is this so important?

The EM facility is subsidized by BYU’s three major science colleges: the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the College of Life Sciences. Being able to quantify the utility of the EM facility to our campus is crucial to allow us to continue to operate and provide the equipment and services to you that are necessary for your research! It is very important to us that you let us know about these publications.

Publication Notification Form

Use this form to submit notification of publications, presentations, posters, etc. where the BYU Electron Microscopy Facility has had an instrumental part of the published work.
