Classes

There are a variety of classes taught through the microscopy lab. All of them are intended to teach the theory and application of microscopy to a particular field of interest the student may have. These classes are applicable to all of the science disciplines as each of them requires a personal project to be completed in the student's field of interest. Continuing education students are encouraged to contact Dr. John Gardner for information about enrollment in the classes.

Botany 530 Scanning Electron Microscopy
The scanning electron microscopy class teaches the theory and use of the scanning electron microscope. The course includes experiments which demonstrate the capabilities of the microscope as well as a research project which enables the student to apply what he learns to their field of study. There is substantial individualized teaching included as part of this class.
Botany 531 Transmission Electron Microscopy
The transmission electron microscopy class teaches the theory and use of the transmission electron microscope. The course includes individualized training on the use of the microscope as well as sample preparation techniques needed as applied to individual projects.
Special Problems
After either Botany 530 or 531 has been taken, students with continuing research interests may take from 1 to 6 hours of special problems which consists of a contract made with Dr. John Gardner to advance the student's research.
